Sockets
Why should you get your sockets installed, repaired, or replaced by one of our electricians?
Plug sockets allow us to use electricity in and around the house, when we plug in our domestic appliances. However, over time sockets may become loose/ damaged or scorched requiring a replacement, more often people wish to change their single plug sockets to double to allow extra electricity use.
There are two different types of socket to choose from – surface or flush-mounted. Whilst surface-mounted sockets are easier to install or replace, flush-mounted sockets look better aesthetically as they don’t stick out. If your plug socket has become damaged or you require socket installation or replacement, always hire a Skilled Electrician for the job who is 100% confident working with electrics, and aware of the regulations when adding a socket to the circuit.
Fusebox/Consumer Unit
Why you should get one of our electricians to replace your fuse box / Consumer Unit
Your fuse box (or consumer unit) controls and distributes all the electricity in your home. With its built-in safety features, it protects your home if there’s an electrical fault. So it’s important to keep this unit in good working order.
Replacing a fuse box is not something anyone can do. The job involves working with electricity, so to avoid injury and safeguard your home’s wiring, it’s best to get one of our Part P qualified electricians out.
Our Skilled Electricians will first test the electrical installation to make sure it’s safe and working. If they spot any faults, they’ll fix this before fitting the new unit. Once they’ve installed the new unit, they’ll record the test results on an Electrical Installation Certificate.
EICR (Condition Report)
Why you should get one of our electricians to carry out an electrical inspection report.
Whether you’re a landlord, new homebuyer or a small business owner, it’s important to make sure all your electrical appliances and fittings are safe and fault-free. The best way to do that is to hire one of our competent, registered electricians to carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). Many people also refer to this as an electrical inspection report.
During an EICR, Our electricians will test your fuse box / consumer unit, wiring and all electrical fittings and accessories for faults or deviations from regulatory standards. They’ll check the earthing and bonding, inspect devices designed to protect you from fire and electrical shock and note down damage or wear and tear that may harm you or your home.
They’ll also identify any damaged electrical fittings and exposed live wires. While some faults are easy to spot, others can only be picked up through rigorous testing. Not all electricians can do an EICR – so it’s vital to hire one of our highly skilled electricians, with years of training and experience.
Fusebox/Consumer Unit Tripping
Why is your fuse box tripping and when should you call one of our electricians?
When a fuse box trips, it leaves you in the dark, mid-kettle-boiling or mid-hoovering. You have no electricity, but the fix is often relatively easy. The likely answer to your fuse box tripping is an appliance. But why does the circuit trip?
Electric circuits contain a circuit breaker fuse system, which ‘trips’ the electricity to avoid the circuit from overheating. By flicking the switch which is in the ‘Off’ position in your main unit back up to ‘On, you could resolve the issue.
However, if your fuse box tripping is a reoccurrence, the most likely cause is a faulty appliance or faulty wiring. You can identify a faulty appliance by turning off and unplugging all electrical items and plugging them back in until the fuse box trips again. The appliance will then need repairing by a professional electrician.
Other reasons for your fuse box tripping include overloaded circuits, damaged cords, or a fault with the main fuse box, all of which should be resolved by one of our qualified electricians to ensure your safety.
Outdoor Lights
Why you should get one of our electricians to install your outdoor light.
Whether you want an outdoor light as an aesthetic feature or to improve your security, there are a few things to consider before you install one. You need to keep the local building and electrical codes in mind and make sure you have enough space to mount the fixture. You also need to find a power source to tap into.
Since the installation of an outdoor light involves working with electricity and your home’s wiring, it’s best to get one of our Part P qualified electricians to help you. They’ll do the work safely and in line with the latest regulations.
Our electricians will check if the mounting height and location correspond with the local building and electrical codes. They’ll switch off the main power and isolate the circuit. They’ll feed the cable through, connect it to the right terminals and place the light in position. After installing the switch and turning the power back on, they’ll test your new light and all its features before they go.
Dimmer Switch / Pull Cord
Why you should get one of our electricians to fix your light dimmer or pull chord switch.
Both dimmer and pull chord switches make life that little bit easier at home. But if you’re suddenly left in the dark or can’t switch off a light, it could be due to wear and tear, dust particles and moisture, or broken parts and loose connections.
These units have intricate designs that you’ll have to pull apart. They’re also connected to your home’s wiring, and since working with electricity involves a number of safety risks, it’s always best to get one of our Part P qualified electricians to help you.
Our electricians will first turn off your power supply before they remove the plate, switch and wires. They’ll test all the parts and replace anything faulty. When they’re confident that everything is in order, they’ll connect and secure the wires, mount the switch and do a final test before they go.
RCD Tripping / Fuse Blown
Why you should get one of our electricians to fix your fuse box.
If your home is suddenly without power, the first place to look is your fuse box. A faulty appliance or power surge may have tripped a switch or blown a fuse. First see if all the switches point upwards – if not, simply flick them all upward. If you’re still without electricity, you can try to reset the main switch.
If it’s still not working or one of the switches won’t flick up, you need to call one of our electricians. Working with electricity poses several safety risks, so we strongly recommend calling us to help you. Our electricians are qualified Part P electricians and are certified to work with electricity in and around your home.
Before they look into the problem, they’ll make sure all your electrical appliances are switched off. They’ll then check your fuse box for blown fuses and replace them. They’ll also test the wiring and connections, and point out any faulty appliances, broken or damaged cables or overloaded power sockets. If your fuse box is old and need replacing, they’ll recommend the best solution and give you a quote for the work.

Why you should get one of our electricians to test and repair RCDs.

From fixed RCDs in your fuse box to socket-outlet or portable RCDs, these devices come in various shapes and sizes. According to Electrical Safety First, fixed RCDs are about 97% reliable – and this will improve if you maintain and test them regularly.
The best person to do this is one of our Part P qualified electricians – they’re certified to safely work with electricity. During their investigation, they’ll look for faults and signs of corrosion. Our electricians will fix broken parts and replace anything that’s beyond repair.

Installing an RCD involves working with your home’s wiring and electricity, so we strongly recommend asking one of our Part P qualified electricians to help. They’ll turn off the main power before mounting the RCD and connecting the incoming cables to the terminals. Once they’ve secured the connections, they’ll turn the power back on and test the device. Our electricians will test the light switch to see if the mechanism is broken. If the switch head or toggle doesn’t stay in place, they’ll remove the old unit and disconnect the wires. They’ll replace it with a new light switch unit and connect the wires again. They’ll also check for loose wires and secure everything in place. Smoke alarms are vital to keep your family safe from fire or smoke inhalation. But before you install one, there are a few factors to consider. You’ll have to think about the location, the number of smoke alarms to install to safeguard your entire home and the general maintenance afterwards.
We recommend installing a smoke alarm on every level of your home, including all bedrooms and the basement. And to avoid false alarms going off in the kitchen or near the bathroom, don’t place the detector too close to cooking appliances or the shower.
Mains-powered smoke alarms are wired to your electrical circuit. So for a smooth and safe installation, we recommend getting one of our Part P qualified electricians out to help.
